Whistleblowing Policy – Forces Children’s Trust
1. Purpose
The Forces Children’s Trust is committed to the highest standards of openness, integrity, and accountability. This policy provides a framework for trustees, staff, volunteers, and stakeholders to raise concerns about wrongdoing without fear of reprisal.
2. Scope
This policy applies to:
- Trustees
- Employees
- Volunteers
- Contractors
- Service users
It covers concerns that are in the public interest, such as:
- Criminal offences
- Breach of legal obligations
- Misuse of charitable funds
- Safeguarding failures
- Health and safety risks
- Environmental damage
- Deliberate concealment of wrongdoing
3. Raising a Concern
Concerns should be raised as soon as possible. You can:
- Speak to your line manager or supervisor
- Contact the designated Whistleblowing Officer (named below)
- If the concern involves the Whistleblowing Officer, contact the Chair of Trustees
Concerns may be raised verbally or in writing. Written concerns should include:
- Background and nature of the issue
- Relevant dates, names, and locations
- Why the issue is concerning

5. Confidentiality & Protection
- All concerns will be treated confidentially.
- Your identity will not be disclosed without your consent unless legally required.
- No whistleblower will suffer detriment for raising a genuine concern.
- Malicious or knowingly false allegations may result in disciplinary action.
6. Investigation Process
- The concern will be assessed and, if appropriate, investigated.
- Investigations may be conducted internally or referred to external bodies (e.g. police, Charity Commission).
- Feedback will be provided where possible, though confidentiality may limit detail.
7. External Reporting
If internal reporting is not appropriate or effective, concerns may be raised with:

8. Review
This policy will be reviewed annually by the Board of Trustees to ensure it remains effective and compliant with current legislation.
